The Shopping Trip That Changed My Relationship With Shopping

Not by guilt but the opposite! I was GIDDY to get home & go through my clothes. I left the dressing room without trying on anything, walked out of the shop & half ran/half walked to the subway. 🤣

It’s hard to articulate the extent of excitement I felt that day. But it boils down to this….

My whole life I’ve been a shopping lover. Loved the thrill of buying & collecting beautiful things (and I still do!)

What changed that day…is I felt MORE excited to ‘style’ the clothes I already had then to buy new ones - I never thought that was even possible. 🤯

Ironically, the reason I’d gone shopping was for ‘retail therapy’ after my initial consult with a redesign client who wanted to get rid of their entire living room and buy all new stuff. I was struggling to get them excited about using what they had and the thought of not being able to use even part of what they already owned bothered me. 😩

So I went to do what cheered me up most - SHOP!
Seeing the beautiful things people have created always gets me in a happy mood. And 💯 I know I wouldn’t have had this realization if I’d been at home.

The inspiration that comes from looking around shops is the missing link in most ‘no buy’ or ‘shop your closet’ challenges.
It’s hard to shift our perspective without that initial spark of inspiration first.
That’s why the first step in my ‘VIBE’ style class is to window shop. 😍

First, I observed what I was drawn to in the shop & why (because it was missing from my closet!) THEN I found a way to create a similar ‘vibe’ using dark floral accessories. And the JOY/pride I felt.. Well it shows in my selfie 🤣
