"OOO love that jumpsuit, especially the open back & colorful lines are SO CUTE" 😍 If comparison mode creeps in again, go DEEPER 👀 Observe the design elements & principles that stand out like SPACE (open back), LINE (the crisscross straps and the variety of lines on the fabric), & RHYTHM (repeated use of lines on the fabric print to create an illusion of movement). That just might be your aesthetic style 😍 There are ‘clues’ (elements & principles) to your aesthetic style in the things you LOVE. Spending time to recognize & articulate them reaffirms what you find personally beautiful. There’s plenty of beautiful style inspiration but what’s the point if it doesn’t make you happy?😉 If you want more practice defining what you find personally beautiful - take my VIBE before you buy class. The thing about color…it IS energy = reflected light. It’s literally a VIBE 🔥 by itself 🙌🏽 & wearing more color can give YOU energy. Win/Win 💃🏾 BUT It’s also intimidating to combine different colors together. I love experimenting with outfits but when it comes to painting walls…not so much 😫 I get the hesitancy to bring more color into your closet not knowing how it fits with your other clothes. My recommendation is to start with a tried & true color ⬇️ 💙BLUE 💙 Blue is a great starting point for ✌🏽 reasons: 1)Most of us own some form of blue: denim or navy ~ it’s color but not ‘loud’. And I’m all about starting with what you have first! #vibebeforeyoubuy 2) Blue is one of the primary colors. That means it can relate easily with a lot of colors because there are multiple colors that stem from it. Instead of thinking color schemes/palettes think of it as a relationship 🤗 Featured in my 1st & 2nd photo are blue items combined with the two other primary colors ‘red’ & ‘yellow’ ❤️💛 3rd photo is the color wheel showing different color relationships 💫 4th & 5th photo show the VIBE/energy difference when I chose a more colorful suit combo. 💙💚 Here’s a simple color mixing tip you can try now! 😄
1) Look in your closet for a favorite ‘blue’ item you own & take it out. 2) Then take out other colors from your closet.(NOTE: nothing white, gray, or black) 3) One by one place each colorful item next to your blue item & observe how you like it. You might just see a color combination you haven’t thought of before! What kind of blues 💙do you have in your closet…is it mostly blue jeans, chambray tops, navy, baby blue or patterned pieces with blues…? The design element ‘color’ = is light reflected by an object. There are 3 characteristics that describe color Hue, saturation, and brightness. When it comes to styling, it’s not just about wearing colors. It’s about knowing how colors relate to each other and letting that guide your styling 😘 If ‘color’ is an element of your aesthetic style this intentionality will bring a whole nother level of JOY to your outfit styling and expressing your personal style without needing to buy a thing!
Fun right?! 😃 Do you think ‘color’ might be a part of your aesthetic style? The best way to define your aesthetic style is in my YAS Stylists program. Watch the VIBE class to learn how to join 🙌🏽 The design principle ‘rhythm’ = repetition that creates movement 🌀 It’s different from the design principle ‘pattern’ which is repeating design elements in a specific order ⛱ 4 Ways to Style with ‘Rhythm’ in clothes & home: 1) Intentionally placing certain colors in various places around a room so that it makes your eyes to move around the entire room. 2) Layering clothes where under layers are repeatedly seen i.e. at the neckline, waistline, cuffs. 3) Wrapping a scarf around multiple times. 4) Wearing or decorating with an item that has ‘rhythm’ such as:
🪡 Knitwear - most have rhythm in how the thread is repeated in certain directions. 🐆Animal prints - the spots or stripes are repeated in a way that looks like movement 🧺Weaving or rattan decor - have rhythm similar to knitwear but a different texture (see examples in the living room photo above) Fun right?! 😃 Do you think ‘rhythm’ might be a part of your aesthetic style?
