Gratitude Lesson from a Sofa

We ordered a new sofa last July. It should’ve been delivered in 2 weeks but it actually took 2 months. As the weeks went by I got more and more frustrated. I was so done with our old sofa. Every part of it looked worn out and needed to be cleaned. 

We’d waited a long time to pick out a new sleeper sofa we loved and would be easier for hosting but all summer long we were still stuck with our old one 😒 One evening in September, I started reminiscing about the day I got that old sofa and how it was the only piece of furniture for a few weeks - it was my bed, office chair and dining chair all in one.  I admired what a strong quality sofa it is to withstand the acrobatic movement of two little boys. 😜

Thinking about all the ways our sofa had helped our family, I felt bad for getting frustrated at it for being old when we’re the ones who wore it down. 😢 I realized that it still had a lot to offer. So I washed every cushion (machine washable, another perk lol!), we took photos and posted it on our neighborhood app.

That same day someone wanted to pick it up! When they came to get it they said it was for their toddler’s playroom. I was SO happy, maybe a little overexcited haha but it was such a perfect fit!! I reassured them how well it could withstand active kiddos. My heart was so full feeling this was a happy send off for our old sofa😊

Two days later our new sofa arrived and I was grateful for the delay because it forced me to reflect and say a heartfelt thank you to our old sofa instead of hastily getting rid of it. This experience reminded me again of how gratitude changes things💗
