I know just what to wear! (I wish)

Often a new event is equated with a new outfit. But what if you’re invited last minute or you have no time in your schedule to buy or rent an outfit?

How can you put together something you’re excited about especially if you don’t own a lot of occasion wear?

Funny story, this exact scenario happened to me last December going to a friend’s wedding. Watch this reel to see how it turned out. 😘 What surprised me most is how much fun I had, compared to a few years before where I would’ve resented having to shop my closet last minute.

Here are 3 ideas to make your closet work for you in those last minute panic moments.  Hint: they’re all about tapping into the power of styling!

• Make it symmetrical - sometimes called the ‘sandwich method’ this is all about creating balance. Pick 2 items that match in some way; by color or fabric or pattern. Then pick a different item to wear in the middle. An example of this could be a top and shoe in the same pattern paired with solid pants. Another example is a jacket in one color layered over a dress in a different color. Most classic/timeless looks have symmetry, so it’s a great go-to method for quickly creating a pulled-together look.

 

• Choose a focal point - give your outfit a 'WOW' factor! One example could be a statement necklace paired with a simple dress or jumpsuit to keep the focus on the necklace. Or maybe you have a fabulous pant or top that screams ‘look at me!’. Whatever that one item is in your closet, let it get all the attention by intentionally pairing it with simple items. Outfits with focal points are great for events because they’re easy conversation starters!
  

 

• Rock it no matter what! Have you heard the expression: “Your smile is your best accessory.”? Confidence is a vibe. When you feel great about how you look - it shows. From your posture to your smile, how you carry yourself impacts how clothes look on you! Tap more into your inner glow by giving yourself plenty of pamper time. Take the time you saved from not shopping to get your beauty sleep and try out that hairstyle or makeup tutorial you saved long ago but never had time for. This idea goes with any outfit because YOU are the center - celebrating the features you love about yourself.
